Abstract

This study aims to report the experience of developing research projects with distinct approaches, carried out within the Nursing Research course. It is grounded in the field of nursing, with emphasis on health education, the promotion of self-care, and evidence-based practice. This is a qualitative experience report conducted by two nursing students in the seventh semester at a higher education institution in the Amazon region. Two individual projects were developed: one literature review focusing on the role of nurses in genetic counseling for hereditary breast cancer, and one field study addressing the effects of excessive screen use on children's behavior. The experience revealed challenges related to topic selection, reading and interpretation of scientific articles, academic writing, and organization of ideas. It is concluded that the experience contributes to the development of critical and scientific skills, highlighting the importance of research in nursing education, especially regarding health education and the promotion of self-care.
